I have been a member of Heaton Harriers since 1985. My main events were 800m and 1500m, and in 1995 I achieved a silver medal at the North Eastern Counties Championships at 800m.
Between March 1990 and March 2000 I was editor of the club's newsletter, HHN.
After some time away from training, I rekindled my enthusiasm by competing in a variety of road races around the country. Some performances are listed below:
4th in Lacon-Childe 10km in Cleobury Mortimer.
10th in Sutton 10km in Surrey
1st in StokeFest 5km in Stoke Newington
3rd in Barking & Dagenham 10km
5th in Wargrave 10km
1st in Heckington Show 10 miles
1st in Gold Hill 10km in Shaftesbury
2nd in Billericay 10km
With the introduction of an M35 into the World Masters (previously known as Veterans) scene, I then had the opportunity to compete internationally on that stage. The 2006 World Indoors gave me an excuse to revisit Linz, where I had seen Roger Whittaker, and this time it was actually in the Intersport Arena. The European Outdoors were in Poznan, Poland, and the 2007 European Indoors were in Helsinki.
I should be able to consider starting to run again later this year, so hopefully the Transplant Games athletics and Masters races may be possible targets for the future.
